On youtube I came across some videos for “The Young Turks.” It is an interesting talk show where they discuss a variety of news and political topics. The Young Turks is also broadcast weeknights on Current TV which is also home to Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

According to The Young Turks (TYT) website:

The show’s team members (Cenk Uygur, Ana Kasparian, Ben Mankiewicz, Michael Shure, Brian Unger, Wes Clark, Jr., RJ Eskow, Dave Koller, Jesus Godoy, Jayar Jackson, Andrew Napier) seem to be all young which may account for the Name, The Young Turks,

The show was created by CENK YUGUR who is also the primary host of the show. Cenk Uygur was born in Istanbul, Turkey and moved to the United States at very early age with his family. He appears to be the ONLY TURK in the show called “The Young Turks.”

Fed order closure of 23 Medical Marijuana Clinics in Colorado

On January 12, Feds have ordered closure of 23 medical marijuana clinics in Colorado because they are within 1,000 feet of schools. The closure must occur within 45 days or their property will be seized.

According to a press release by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA):

“On January 12 John Walsh, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Colorado, issued letters to 23 marijuana stores formally notifying them that action will be taken to seize their property if they do not discontinue the sale and/or distribution of marijuana within 45 days.

Those who do not comply will be subject to potential criminal prosecution and civil enforcement actions by the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado and the DEA. The 23 stores, located in various cities and towns in Colorado, are each within 1,000 feet of a school, with many even closer.

U.S. Attorney Walsh noted data that shows that since the opening of marijuana dispensaries in Colorado in 2010, many school districts have seen a dramatic increase in student abuse of marijuana, with growing numbers of students suspended and disciplined. These letters are just the first step that will be taken to address this issue, according to the US Attorney’s Office.”

Total recall for 1.35 million condoms in South Africa

According to the Associated Press, South Africa has recalled a large batch of 1.35 million defective condoms. Apparently, these condoms were distributed before the January 6-8 centenary celebrations of the African National Congress (ANC) party. A number of people reported leaks and bursts in condoms during sex.

After some tests, the health department officials have recalled the entire batch of 1,350,000 condoms around January 18.  There was no confirmation of how many of the condoms were used or have been recovered. These condoms were distributed to hotels and bars in the central city of Bloemfontein, where thousands of people traveled from all over the country for the celebrations.

Some AIDS activists have pointed out that the recall was limited to health department workers visiting the hotels, guesthouses and bars in Bloemfontein where they had delivered the condoms and reclaiming any that remained. The health department had not issued countrywide warnings to alert people of the defects and not to use condoms distributed during the celebrations. Since people came from all over, it is likely that they took many away with them which will now be dispersed all over the country.

Previous recalls in South Africa included, 20 million defective condoms in 2007 and 5 million in 2008.

At 5.6 million cases, South Africa is home to the world's highest number of AIDS victims. The government distributed more than 400 million free condoms in 2010.

Mel Gibson is being used as an ATM by some Jews

There is no end in sight for Mel Gibson’s sufferings. Mel Gibson has taken a lot of beating in the past few years. He has been accused of being an anti-Semite by the media. This has severely damaged Gibson’s movie career because the media and Hollywood are pretty much controlled and run by the Jews. Even though Mel Gibson has done a lot, including giving money to Jewish causes, to prove otherwise, he is still being abused and dragged down.

There is an interesting report in TMZ. Apparently, a group of Jews from Corona have asked Mel Gibson for money which, in their view, might also help repair Gibson’s guilty conscience. Corona is located near Riverside in Inland Empire, southern California.

Congregation Beth Shalom, in Corona, took a big loan on its synagogue but, now, they are unable to payback and are facing a foreclosure. So, being creative, they have approached Mel Gibson requesting large sum money to stop foreclosure. The idea is to put Mel Gibson to shame and let him redeem once more by giving away money.

According to TMZ, the letter sent to Mel Gibson states:

"Our proposal to you, Mr. Gibson, is since you have been cited as an Anti-Semitic, and have denied those allegations, what better way to prove to all your fans and the nay Sayers -- than to endorse and help raise funds for our cause -- SOS, Save Our Synagogue… Mr. Gibson, we offer you to be a Mensch and make a sizable contribution to our cause."

This whole episode is repulsive and feels almost like a black mail. Mel Gibson has already suffered a lot of damages and has been forced to repeatedly apologize and give away money to fend off charges that a number of people don’t think were justifiable or of any consequence. Gibson's divorce itself may have been caused by the stress of dealing with this issue. According to TMZ itself, Gibson has contributed a fortune to a bunch of L.A. charities, including $5 million to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center -- a Jewish hospital.

One has to wonder who the banker was that gave loan to this unqualified synagogue. Banks and financial institutions are predominantly controlled and run by Jews and so is the mainstream media that is on Mel Gibson’s tail.

TMZ.com found only one thing surprising about this episode:

“The real issue .... Who knew there were Jews in Corona?”

It seems like it is going to be a very long walk home for Mel Gibson even if he can afford to pay these toll booths sitting in his way.

P.S.
Analogy with ATM is not really appropriate. At a bank ATM people only take their money form their own account. In Mel Gibson's case, it is his money and his pocket are being picked.

Ron Paul against Internet Censorship

Although Congress was back in session for scarcely more than a day last week, private citizens across the country managed to cause an uproar felt across Capitol Hill.  The uproar took the form of hundreds of thousands of phone calls to both Senators and Representatives, urging them to oppose two draconian new bills that threaten the free and unbridled flow of information on the internet.

On Wednesday last week, dozens of prominent websites like Wikipedia, Reddit, and Craigslist, were blacked out in protest of two bills known in DC jargon as SOPA and PIPA.  SOPA is the House bill; PIPA is its Senate companion. These bills ostensibly will combat internet piracy, and of course we also are told they will help us wage the never ending "war on terror."

What these bills actually do is force website owners to police the internet; create entry barriers to the only relatively free and open medium of communication; and threaten to break the technological structure of the internet itself.  They also violate our 1st Amendment right to freedom of speech and our 4th Amendment freedom from unreasonable searches and seizures. 

SOPA and PIPA have been drafted not only without respect for the Constitution, but also without an understanding of the how the internet works.  These bills attack the very system upon which the entire orderly organization of the web depends.  Search engines, internet service providers, advertising sites, and sites with user-generated content such as Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter--all magnificent creations of the market-- are directly threatened by these bills. They will be held responsible if even a single of their millions of users posts even one link to a website that a copyright holder claims is violating a copyright.

Note that under the bills as written, the Department of Justice or a copyright holder do not have to prove that their copyright was violated-- they simply have to claim copyright infringement and an entire site is shut down.  The burden of these regulations on the internet will be enormous, shifting resources away from productivity and innovation and into monitoring and censoring.  It turns internet companies into involuntary tools for Big Brother government, further eroding our Constitutional rights.

As is typical of so many bills in Congress, SOPA and PIPA were not crafted to make life better for the American people, but rather were written at the behest of big business trying to enlist the federal government as its strong-arm.  For example, the Motion Picture Association of America spent more than $1.2 million so far lobbying for their passage.

But the internet community is fighting back effectively, not just with websites that went black but with millions of users who expressed their solidarity.  Congressional sponsors of both bills have been jumping ship in response to the outrage. The House Judiciary Committee canceled the SOPA hearing they were planning to hold last Wednesday; the House leadership announced they have no intention of considering this bill; and at the end of the week Senator Reid announced he was postponing the vote until a "compromise" could be reached.  The American people are speaking, and with their continued grassroots efforts the marketplace for free ideas and communication will prevail over government controls and censorship.

Recent media reports showed Arizona’s Governor Jan Brewer’s finger pointing exchange with President Obama on an airport tarmac in Phoenix.

It appears the issue was related to her book "Scorpions for Breakfast” and the President felt disrespected in the book. In her book, Brewer mentioned a 2010 incident about Arizona immigration laws, during which she had felt that Obama “thought he could lecture me, and I would learn at his knee.” However, the White House insists the meeting had been “cordial.”

Some republican politicians have taken advantage of this finger pointing episode to take shot at President Obama. Senator John McCain told Fox Business News “It is very well known he has a prickly personality.”  Since then, Governor Brewer had said that the reports of the meeting were "blown out of proportion," and that she simply wanted to give President Obama a letter asking him for another meeting.

Pat Sajak has hosted the game show “Wheels of Fortune” since 1981 and was subsequently joined by Vanna White.

According to recent reports, during an interview on ESPN, Pat Sajak indicated that during early years on the show both of them, Pat and Vanna, often used to drink 2 -4- 6 margaritas in a nearby restaurant during a break in taping. After getting loaded with margaritas they did not mind getting behind that giant wheel.

Considering how little mental and physical intelligence one needs to be functioning in that show, there is no doubt it all worked out fine for them. One has to be glad that they were in charge of spinning Wheels of Fortune and not a Ferris wheel. Join the AA, people.

Apple blasts with record quarterly sales of $46 billion

Apple reported record income of $46.34 billion for the quarter ended Dec. 31 which was73% higher compared to last year's fourth quarter report. The net income was $13.87 a share, up 116% from a year earlier.

Sales were added by increasing demand for the iPhone and iPad. Apple sold 37.04 million iPhones, 15.43 million iPads, 15.4 million iPod media players and 5.2 million Macintosh computers. Sales of Mac computers grew 26% from a year earlier compared with no growth for the general PC market overall,

Apple is the most valuable technology company with a market value of over $400 billion and nearly $100 billion in cash reserves.

Ron Paul Presidential Candidate and Baseball Home Run Hitter

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ron Paul is a man of principles and very knowledgeable about the Constitution, economics and world affairs. Although biased main stream media often belittles him by questioning his electability, Dr. Paul happens to be the only candidate who has been elected to the Congress about ten times. Most remarkably, as a physician, Dr. Paul has delivered over 4,000 babies.

There is another physical achievement of Dr. Paul that no presidential candidate can match. According to Politico, Dr. Ron Paul is the only congressman, dead or alive, to have hit a home run over the fence in the annual congressional baseball game’s 50-year history. The home run was hit during a game in the 1980s.

It will be no surprise if Ron Paul swings another home run all the way to the White House and is elected the next President.
